Fall Cocktail Recipe

Friends! I was just thinking that I need to share another great cocktail with you…it’s been far too long! It obviously needed to be one that tastes like fall. My mom and I were planning out our Thanksgiving menu last weekend, and at the top of the list is our Apple Cider Cars that we make to kick off every Thanksgiving. I thought, that would be the perfect one to share…but I forgot that I already did.

Hence, research on fall cocktails was embarked upon, flavor ideas were hatched, and recipe testing was completed. I even had to re-photograph the cocktail one afternoon for better lighting…and I couldn’t let that delicious treat go to waste. #sorryimnotsorry #funemployed

Pear Spice Cocktails

I love summer cocktails, but there are some things you just can’t do until the fall…like brandy, cinnamon, orange spice, pumpkin, pomegranate, cider, and pear. I’ve never done a pear cocktail, but I knew that was the answer. I also saw a recipe that used a black pepper simple syrup! Interesting, no? After conferring with my trusty recipe consultants, I settled on the Pear Spice Cocktail!

I made a spiced simple syrup with freshly cracked black peppercorns and a cinnamon stick. A splash of that sweet and spicy concoction gets mixed together with brandy, pear nectar, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. That gets poured over ice, topped off with champagne, and garnished with a fresh slice of pear. YES. Just yes.

This cocktail tastes of fall, like woah. It’s a “pinkies up,” “more is more” kind of cocktail, and it is sure to wow your guests/relatives/roommates. Promise me you’ll give it a try soon? It’s my new favorite.

Here’s what I did:

Pear Spice Cocktail

*makes 6 cocktails with this amount of syrup

In a small pot, bring to a boil:

  • ½ c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp. whole black peppercorns
  • 1 Tbs. freshly cracked black peppercorns (either in a mortar and pestle or in a baggie with a mallet)

After the mixture boils, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat, and let the spice syrup cool.

In a tumbler, snifter, or whatever glass you like, mix together:

  • 1 oz. spice syrup
  • 3 oz. brandy (2 “regular” shots)
  • ¼ c. pear nectar (or good pear juice)
  • a healthy squeeze of fresh lemon (about 2 tsp.)

Add ice (about 5 cubes) and top off with:

  • a splash of champagne

Garnish with a slice of pear, and serve! Enjoy the cocktail and embrace the fall! And check out more recipes at Fiesta Friday!
